July is still a busy month for Canada’s Express Entry system, with both all-program and category specific draws taking place.
On July 12th, the immigration administration launched another Express Entry draw, asking 3800 individuals with French language proficiency to participate in a category-based selection draw. Candidates admitted to this draw had to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 375.
The all-program Express Entry draws continued on July 11th, with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issuing 800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 505.
Furthermore, IRCC is set to hold more tailored draws this week, as part of a new policy of category-based draws aimed at meeting Canada’s economic, cultural, and demographic needs. Since the end of June, IRCC has already began to implement these reforms, holding specific draws for healthcare workers and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professionals.
These categories are as follows:
· Healthcare professionals
· Transportation workers
· Professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
· Trades such as Carpenters, Plumbers, and Contractors.
· Workers in Agriculture and Agri-food
· Candidates having a strong command of the French language.
How will Immigration, Refugees, & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conduct Express Entry draws?
Throughout the year, the IRCC holds a variety of Express Entry draws.
- All-program Invitations: This is when the IRCC invites the top candidates who are eligible for all three Express Entry programs.
- Program-Specific Invitation Rounds: In this round, the IRCC invites the highest-ranking candidates who are specifically eligible for a certain Express Entry program. A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-focused draw, for example, will only invite PNP candidates who are eligible.
- Category-Based Invitation Rounds: The Minister establishes a specific category for these rounds to cater to a certain economic purpose. Candidates who place first in their respective categories are invited. These category-based rounds supplement general and program-specific rounds by inviting top-tier applicants who can aid in the achievement of specific economic objectives.
Candidates should be aware that they must be eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs in order to be considered for the pool.
