With the new Scale-up visa, high-growth enterprises can now attract exceptional talent to the UK.
The government announced today (22 August) that the new Scale-up visa will provide the UK’s top high-growth enterprises more flexibility and ability to attract the world’s finest talent.
UK businesses that have achieved great success will be able to sponsor exceptional individuals ranging from scientists and engineers to architects and programmers to help them grow and contribute to the UK economy.
Unlike other sponsored visas, the Scale-up visa permits firms to hire highly talented workers who will be granted two years of leave to remain in the UK without the need for additional sponsorship or authorization after the first six months.
This will strengthen the government’s total offer to businesses via the points-based immigration system, allowing them to hire qualified staff from anywhere in the world. The Scale-up visa will provide them with additional flexibility in hiring the often in-demand talent they require to advance to the next level, while also increasing the UK’s high-skilled pool. Unlike other sponsored visas, the Scale-up visa permits firms to hire highly talented workers who will be granted two years of leave to remain in the UK without the need for additional sponsorship or authorization after the first six months.
Kevin Foster, Minister for Safe and Legal Migration, stated:

Through our Scale-up visa, we’re enabling businesses to focus on their growth and innovation by giving them more freedom to bring in the diverse skills and experience they need, making them more attractive on an international stage.”

Scale-up Institute CEO Irene Graham OBE stated:

Scale-up is an essential phase for high-growth companies to continue growing and increasing their international competitiveness. By bringing in sought-after experience and skills, businesses can increase their creativity and productivity, and hence continue to contribute to the UK economy.
Companies, including small businesses and those in the technology and financial services sectors, that have grown by 20% or more in employment or turnover year on year for at least three years and employed at least ten people at the start of the three years will be eligible to sponsor talented individuals through the Scale-up visa.
